Bobcat Women Head to Lone Star State on Monday

The Montana State women’s basketball squad will play the University of Texas-El Paso (UTEP) on Monday, Dec. 22 at 12 noon in the Don Haskins Center. The Bobcats will then be off for the holiday break until they host Brigham Young University on Jan. 6 in Worthington Arena. Following the UTEP game, Montana State’s practices will resume on Dec. 29.

For the second straight season Dave Cowan will handle play-by-play duties of ALL regular and postseason Bobcat games on KSCY 96.7 (The Sky) FM.
One More Before The Break:
The Montana State women’s basketball squad will play one final game before they break for the holidays. The Bobcats will face UTEP, Monday afternoon in El Paso. The Miners will host New Mexico State on Saturday, before meeting the Bobcats. Following the holiday break, MSU will resume practice on Dec. 29 and will play two final non-conference games in Worthington Arena against Brigham Young (Jan. 6) and Utah Valley State (Jan. 10), before opening their Big Sky Conference schedule at Weber State on Jan. 15.
Scouting The Opponents:
The University of Texas-El Paso is currently 3-3 overall and will meet New Mexico State on Saturday, before playing the Bobcats. The Miners have won three of their last four games, including victories over Western Carolina, Alabama State and Cal Poly. UTEP’s three losses have been to New Mexico State, UT-San Antonio and Kansas. The Miners are led this season by Vaida Zagurskyte, a 5-foot-9 guard from Kaunas, Lithuania, who averages a team-best 12.3 points, while chipping in 3.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. Also in double-digits for UTEP is Marta Dydek, a 6-foot-6 center from Zabki, Poland, who is averaging 10.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per contest. The multi-national Miners list six players from overseas. Two years ago, the Bobcats defated UTEP in Bozeman 86-54. A freshman by the name of Kati Burrows had 24 points and nine boards in the victory for Montana State.
Big Sky Conference Player of the Week:
Montana State senior Sheila Hutchison was named the Big Sky Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season for her efforts against #14 Oklahoma, Portland and UC Irvine. The 5-foot-9 native of Blackfoot, Idaho, averaged 18.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 4.7 steals per game in the three games. She was instrumental in MSU’s win over Portland with 25 points, including 23 in the second half. Against the Pilots, Hutchison connected on 5-of-5 three pointers in the second stanza to lift the Bobcats.
