Smith, Ioane Earn All-America Honors

Corey Smith had a historic season as Montana State's kick and punt return specialist, and as a reward will go down in Bobcat history.
Smith earned first team All-America honors as bestowed by The Sports Network and the American Football Coaches Association, becoming Montana State's first consensus All-America since punter Matthew Peot in 1999. In addition, Kane Ioane, the Big Sky's Defensive MVP, was named first team All-America by The Sports Network.
"These honors come for very deserving players and very deserving people," said MSU coach Mike Kramer. "Corey was the most debonair return man in the country this year, and certainly extends a long tradition of great, great returners at this school. Kane Ioane was a stellar player and a strong part of the foundation of this program. These two played a dynamic role as juniors and seniors on a back-to-back championship team."
Smith, from Decatur High in Federal Way, WA, returned four punts and two kickoffs for touchdowns this year. He holds the MSU and Big Sky records for punts and kickoffs returned for touchdowns in a single season and a career, and is the only player in MSU history to return two punts and a punt and kickoff for TDs in the same game.
Ioane has led the Big Sky Conference in total tackles for three straight seasons, and finishes his career as a two-time All-Big Sky selection. He was named the Big Sky Defensive MVP as a senior this season.
