Hutchison’s Hot-Hand Gives Potera-Haskins 300th Career Victory

“My coaching career has never been easy,” Potera-Haskins said. “I’ve had to scratch and claw for every victory and (tonight) the kids did a great job. They really wanted the win and did a great job on both ends of the court.”
Montana State (6-3) opened the second stanza on an 8-2 run to take a 32-31 lead at the 17:59 mark on a Jana Smith three-pointer. The lead changed hands nine times before the Bobcats pulled away following a Hutchison three-pointer to give MSU a 51-46 cushion.
MSU took its largest advantage of the game at 64-54 on another Hutchison trey with 3:25 remaining to secure the victory.
Hutchison, a 5-foot-9 guard from Blackfoot, Idaho, connected on five-of-five three pointers in the second stanza and also ended the game with seven rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Also contributing to the Bobcat victory were Kati Burrows and Jaimey Tanner with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Tanner paced MSU in the first half with a team-best 12 points, while Burrows added ten points in the second half. MSU was led under the boards by Smith with 11 rebounds.
Portland (3-3) was led in the loss by Khalila O’Rielly-Williams with 22 points and 12 rebounds.
The Bobcats opened the game with an early 5-0 run following a Tanner three-pointer. After a pair of Nina Sanford free throws, MSU held a 20-16 margin before the Pilots went on a 13-4 run to enter intermission with a 29-24 cushion.
Montana State will play at UC Irvine on Saturday night.
