The Montana State women’s basketball squad will play three games in four days, beginning with #14 Oklahoma on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 7:05 p.m. in Worthington Arena. Following its game against the Sooners, MSU will travel to Portland, Friday, Dec. 12, to meet the Pilots at 8 p.m. (MST), before making the trek to UC Irvine on Saturday for a 8:30 p.m. tip.
On The Air:
For the second straight season Dave Cowan will handle play-by-play duties of ALL regular and postseason Bobcat games on KSCY 96.7 (The Sky) FM.
Time To Go To Work:
The Bobcats will have their work cut out for them this week as they’ll play three games in a four day period. MSU opens the week against #14 Oklahoma. The game is a return for MSU as the ‘Cats played in Norman on Dec. 8, 2000, the same year the Sooners advanced to the 2002 NCAA National Championship game against Connecticut. OU defeated Montana State 86-62. On Friday night, the ‘Cats will face non-conference rival Portland. The two schools will meet for the ninth straight season with the Pilots holding a 6-2 advantage during that span. MSU won last year’s contest 86-74 in Bozeman. Saturday, MSU will face UC Irvine for the third time in the program’s history. The series is tied at 1-1, with the Anteaters winning last on Dec. 19, 1982.
Scouting The Opponents:
Oklahoma is 6-0 after defeating Utah on Sunday, 73-65, in Norman. OU has notched victories over Oral Roberts, SE Missouri State, Siena, Pepperdine and SMU. Caton Hill (14.5 ppg) and Maria Villarroel (13.5 ppg) pace four Sooners in double-figure scoring. As a team, Oklahoma is shooting 51 percent from the field, 40 percent from three-point range and 77 percent from the line. Portland is 3-2 overall with wins over Western Oregon, Oregon and Portland State. The Pilots are captained by Khalila O’Rielly-Williams, who averages 17.6 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. UP downed Big Sky Conference foe Portland State, 77-72, last Saturday in the Stott Center. UC Irvine is 0-3 on the season and will play its fourth straight game in the Bren Center. UCI’s losses have come to Eastern Washington, Pepperdine and San Diego State. The Anteaters are led by Christina Callway, who averages 11.3 ppg.

Montana State senior Sheila Hutchison was named MSU’s Player of the Week for the third consecutive week, after guiding the Bobcats at the Arizona State-Wells Fargo Holiday Classic. Last weekend in Tempe, Hutch averaged 15.5 points, six rebounds, 4.5 assists and four steals per game, en route to being named to the all-tournament squad.
