Hauso and Gottschalk, distance runners, will compete in track and field as well as cross country for the Bobcats.
Hauso, a multi sport athlete at Bainville High School, was the Montana Class C state champion in the 1600-meters and state runner-up in the 3200-meters as a junior. She was also the 2003 district and divisional champion at both distances. In addition, Hauso captained BHS’s volleyball, basketball and track squads.
“Kayla (Hauso) will bring a variety of athletic experience into the MSU cross country and track programs,” Kennedy said. “Her overall athleticism will be a great launching pad for success. Kayla will likely see rapid improvement in the running part of her athletic career at MSU when she begins to engage in a running program on a year around basis.”
Gottschalk finished third at the 2003 CIF cross country league championship and placed 10th at the section meet as well. As a junior, she finished third in the 2002 CIF league championship and was second at 3200-meters. An outstanding student athlete, she plans to major in paleontology at MSU.
“Carrie (Gottschalk) will bring a high level of commitment in running and academic achievement to the MSU cross country and track and field programs,” Kennedy said. “She is a great fit for our program and her work ethic will enable our program to continue our tradition of excellence in the classroom and on the cross country course and track.”
