The Bobcats are coming off a pair of exhibition victories, including an 88-58 win over Strakonice, Czech Republic, and a 70-62 victory over Northwest Sports. MSU was paced in the two games by junior Kati Burrows, who averaged 16 points and 3.5 rebounds. Burrows, a Bozeman native, recorded a game-high 24 points in MSU’s win over Northwest Sports.
“We were pleased with the effort the team gave us in the two exhibition games,” said third-year head coach Robin Potera-Haskins. “We still have things to work on, but we got a good look at where we’re at, and where we need to go. I thought we did a nice job on the perimeter and Sheila Hutchison, Kati Burrows and Jana Smith were solid in the performances.
“We still need to get more production out of the bench,” said Haskins, who led MSU to a 21-9 overall mark and a regular-season Big Sky title last winter. “Belinda (Stubbs) did a nice job at the post, but I feel that we need even more of an inside presence.”
Also contributing to the Bobcat attack in the first two outings were Sheila Hutchison and Jana Smith, who averaged 15.5 and 15 points, respectively. Hutchison, a senior from Blackfoot, Idaho, also chipped in eight rebounds, six steals and four assists in the two games.
Last season, UC Riverside went 8-20 overall and finished 5-11 in Big West action. The Highlanders will be led by Crystal Harris, a 6-foot forward from Vista, Calif., who averaged 12.9 points and 5.4 rebounds last winter. UCR is coached by Jennifer Young, who has recorded a 67-97 overall in six seasons with the program.
MSU’s next home game will be Monday, Nov. 24 when they host Utah State at 7:05 p.m., in Worthington Arena
