Bobcats Sign JC Guard

Branden Miller, a 6-1 guard from Colby, Kans., Community College, has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to join the Montana State basketball program next year.
Miller is averaging 18 points and 3.6 rebounds a game for a Colby squad from which four players signed with Division I programs this week. He shoots 43% from three-point range, 50% overall, and has 27 assists and 19 turnovers.
Colby head coach Brian Ostermann said Miller's game translates well to the Division I level. "Branden is very competitive," Ostermann said. "He really shoots the basketball, he's quick, solid defensively, and he has the ability to play both guard positions, which makes him very versatile."
MSU coach Mick Durham is enthused about Miller. "We're excited about Branden joining our program," he said. "He can play both the point and off guard positions, he defends, he has leadership skills, and he can shoot the three. I believe he'll blend in well with our young returning players next season and maintain our improved quickness on the perimeter."
A native of Milwaukee, Miller played high school ball at Madison High before joining the Colby program. He averaged 13.4 points a game as a freshman, with 107 assists and 85 three-pointers, and shot 35% from three-point range.
"I would venture a guess that he'll be the best or second-best guard in the league next year," Ostermann said. "He is an absolute steal for Montana State. He is a lower level Conference USA player, he could play just about anywhere in the WAC. He's not quite big enough at 6-1 to play in the Big 12 or the other major conferences, but he is a very good player."
Durham said Colby's status as a premiere junior college program will help ease Miller's transition next fall. "Colby CC is ranked in the top 10 in the country, and Branden's playing in the top Juco league in the country. Coach Ostermann runs a very good program. Branden is off to a good start. Our fall needs were to sign a combo guard and we found a good one. We'll need a frontline player in the spring signing period. PJ Owsley will get one of our three available scholarships for next season, also."
