F Title Talk... The Bobcats and Grizzlies are playing for the Big Sky title for the second straight year, and the third time in the last six seasons.
F A Kick... The offensive and defensive matchups between the ‘Cats and Griz, seem close, and both programs have spectacular return units. One apparent discrepancy, though, arises in kick scoring. MSU place kicker Nate Cook is 8-14 on field goals and 30-32 on PATs, and has scored 54 points. Montana kicker Chris Snyder is 19-22 on field goals, 41-42 on PATs, and has scored 100 points. Pinning ‘Em Since Travis Lulay became MSU’s punter, he has used a rugby-like roll punt to average 36.2 yards a punt, and has pinned the opponent inside the 20 nine times.
Finishing Strong
Mike Kramer’s teams have shown the ability to finish strong. Between 1990 and ‘99, the Bobcats were 6-20 in the month of November without a single winning month. Mike Kramer’s teams are 7-7 in November, and last year’s 4-1 ride to the Big Sky title was the school’s first winning November since 1984.
Catching On
Scott Turnquist caught 14 passes for the Bobcats vs. NAU, the second-most receptions in one game in MSU history.
Whitewashin’
Montana State’s shutout of Saint Mary’s was the Cats’ first since blanking Sacramento State in 2001. It was MSU’s first road shutout since beating Weber State 48-0 in 1984, 213 games ago.
Paydirt
Bruce Molock has scored seven TDs in the last three games, and his 10 TD runs this year is fifth in MSU history. Playing Quarters The Bobcats have held the opponent scoreless in 24 of the team’s 44 quarters. The loss at Eastern marked the only time this season a team has scored points in each of the four quarters against the Bobcats.
Third’s a Charm
MSU has surrendered only 10 third-quarter points this year -- an Eastern Washington TD, and a field goal by Weber State.
Half is Good
The Bobcat defense has held opposing quarterbacks to below 50% passing in five of the last six games. Portland State was 9-for-28 last week.
Stingy
Montana State’s league-leading defense has allowed only one opponent -- Northern Arizona -- to gain more than 400 total yards. Portland State gained just 112 yards, MSU’s best defensive day since holding Mesa State to 49 yards in ‘92.
Pickin’...
Bobcat defensive end Clive Lowe, a redshirt freshman, has intercepted two passes this season. Both came as a result of dropping into coverage in MSU’s zone blitz scheme. Lowe is tied for the team lead in interceptions.
...and Breakin’
Bobcat cornerback Joey Thomas broke up four NAU passes and two against Sac State. He now has nine this season. As a team, the Bobcats have 25 pass breakups in the last four weeks.
Seeing Red
Since scoring on eight straight red zone opportunities, the Bobcats have struggled in the last four games. MSU is 13-for-19 in that stretch.
Turning it Over
MSU was -6 in turnovers before going +2 against Portland State. MSU is 3-1 in those four games.

KRAMER’S QUOTES
On the win at Portland State: “It was a careful, measured, efficient win by a team taking tentative steps toward a Big Sky Championship game. I don’t think there was one point in the game at which we considered anything other than winning. We weren’t thinking of style, we weren’t thinking of stats, we weren’t thinking of any individual performances. We were solely focused on winning. It was an excellent game by our entire defense, and that brings Pete Kwiatkowski’s defense to the point where it has an opportunity to accomplish something historic. We return to full strength this week, with Raymund Sebestyen and Kenneth Qualls returning from injury, and that will buoy us even more. Ryan Force and Travis Lulay had nice games returning to their home area.”
On the Montana game: “I think Montana is a very confident team at this juncture. They are very hot offensively, and gathering momentum all the time. Throughout the year their defense has been absolutely stellar, particularly their defensive front. In the kicking game, Montana has been at least equal to ours except that they have a decided advantage at kicker. Turnovers will be the key to this game. Nothing else will matter. Field position and scoring opportunities will center on the turnover situation.”
On the Bobcats: “The situation is a little different entering the game this year. We don’t see importance in ‘the game’ or the pageantry surrounding it. We’ve stressed the importance of being result-oriented and result-conscious in this program, and the result, the outcome, has to be that uppermost in our mind. We need to focus on how we prepare and practice leading up to the game, and how we execute during the game. That will give us the correct and proper perspective. This is a team that has always performed best when its back is against the wall, for whatever reason. It’s back is certainly against the wall this year.”
