Montana State 25, Portland State 14 – November 15 in PGE Park, Portland
INJURY REPORT: The Bobcats are banged up entering next weekend’s ‘Cat-Griz game. Jeff Bolton (knee), Bruce Molock (shoulder), Joe Hirst (thumb), and Scott Turnquist (shoulder) either sustained or aggravated injuries in Saturday’s game. Jonathan Molock (shoulder) and Ray Sebestyen (concussion) each missed Saturday’s game. All are expected to play against Montana.

TEAM NOTES
• Montana State’s win at Portland snapped a five-game losing streak at PGE Park that covered the last 29 years, and it was MSU’s first conference road win over the Vikings
• The Bobcats are guaranteed a winning record in Big Sky play for the third straight season, the first time the Bobcats have accomplished that since 1972-76
• The Bobcats are now over .500 for the second time in three weeks, but the last time that happened, prior to the Eastern Washington game, the Bobcats fell back to even the next week
• MSU had 15 first downs against Portland State, the fewest for the team since getting 13 at Weber State. Ironically, both those games were league road wins for the ‘Cats. MSU’s 15 first downs is the fourth-lowest total of the season.
• Saturday’s game was the first for MSU this year against a Big Sky opponent, and its fourth overall, without a turnover
• The Bobcats were four-of-six in red zone scoring chances, with one missed field goal and the game-ending drive on which the Bobcats allowed the clock to expire. MSU is now 17-for-25 in red zone possessions in the last five games, which comes on the heels of eight straight red zone scores
• MSU had only two three-and-out possessions on Saturday, which came on the first drive of each half
• Portland State’s average starting field position was its own 43 yard line, and the first four possessions of the game began on the Bobcat side of the 50
• The Bobcats hed Portland State to 9-for-28 passing on Saturday, and have held five of thei last six opponents to less than 50% passing
• Montana State has won its last four games in which the Bobcats intercepted a pass
• The Bobcats held Portland State to 112 total yards, the best mark of the season for MSU’s league-leading defense and the lowest total in at least the last decade
• The Bobcats have outscored their opponents 74-27 in the second quarter this year
• Since Travis Lulay became MSU’s punter against Saint Mary’s, the ‘Cats have pinned the opponent inside the 20-yard line nine times on 29 punts
• The Bobcat offense has turned the ball over 21 times this season, but the defense has allowed scores on only four of the ensuing possessions
• Portland State threw for 99 yards against the Bobcats, the second time this year MSU has limited its foe to under 100 aerial yards
• Montana State’s two takeaways Saturday allowed the Bobcats to finish positive in turnover margin for the first time in five games
• The Bobcats have still allowed only 10 points in the third quarter all season
• The Bobcat defense has allowed only one opponent – NAU – to gain more than 400 yards
• MSU held Portland State to 1-for-14 on third down confersions, and is now allowing opponents to convert just 28% of its third downs into first downs
INDIVIDUAL NOTES/PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
OFFENSE: QB Travis Lulay, 6-2, 205, So, Aumsville, OR
Playing in a college game for the first time in his native state, Travis Lulay led the Bobcats to a 25-14 win over Portland State. Lulay was 16-for-29 passing for 178 yards and one touchdown, and was not intercepted.
OTHER NOTES: Travis Lulay was held to negative rushing yards for the first time since the season-opener… Bruce Molock has rushed for at least one touchdown in four straight games, he has seven rushing TDs in that stretch, and his 10 this season is fifth in school history… Travis Lulay has completed at least half his passes in nine straight games… Scott Turnquist played in only one possession Saturday, but caught a pass to extend his string to 17 straight games with a catch.
DEFENSE: SS Kane Ioane, 5-11, 205, Sr, Billings
Kane Ioane led the Bobcats in tackles for the fifth straight game, getting 12 total stops and 10 solos. He led a Bobcat defense that allowed Portland State just 112 total yards.
OTHER NOTES: Jon Montoya registered his first full sack since the Gardner-Webb game, and Adam Cordeiro had his first since the NAU game… it was the first time this season the long-time linemates have each registered a full sack in the same game… redshirt freshman safety Ryan Force, a native of the Portland area, had his first career interception Saturday night, and he also broke up a pass.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Corey Smith, 5-10, 168, Sr, Federal Way, WA
Corey Smith returned one punt 62 yards for a touchdown, and returned five punts in all for 89 yards. Smith’s touchdown return came late in the first half, and gave the Bobcats a 19-7 lead. With the touchdown, Smith set Big Sky Conference records for career (five) and single-season (four) touchdown punt returns
OTHER NOTES: Nate Cook has missed a PAT in two consecutive games, after PSU blocked an extra point on Saturday… Portland State had 20 punt return yards on Saturday, more than Travis Lulay had allowed in his previous six games as MSU’s punter… Lulay has now pinned the opponent inside its own 20 nine times.
