Bobcat's Defeat Northwest Sports 70-62

BOZEMAN, MT. – Montana State junior Kati Burrows led the women's basketball team to victory as the Bobcats wrapped up exhibition play with a 70-62 win over Northwest Sports. Burrows tallied 14 points in the first half and notched 24 points by the end of the game.
Junior Jana Smith scored 19 points, and was a perfect 5 for 5 from the free throw line, and also recorded three steals. Sheila Hutchison also scored in double figures with 15 points, two steals, and three assists.
The Bobcats held onto a strong lead after moving ahead of Northwest Sports 7- 2 at 17:03 with a three-pointer from Smith. A jumper in the lane from Burrows gave the Bobcat’s a 24-15 lead with 9:01 in the half. The Bobcat’s closed the half on a Smith jump shot to tie the game at 36-36.
The Bobcats began the second half with a 9-3 run, at 45-39 with 17:49 left to play. They continued to dominate by building their lead to 15 points on a three-pointer by Scotta Morton with 3:57 left in the game.
With 1:52 left to play, Northwest Sports came within seven points (66-59), on two free throws by Annie Garrison who finished with 13 points and a perfect 12 for 12 from the free-throw line. Northwest Sports efforts fell short.
The Bobcats shot 37.9 percent from the field in the second half and held Northwest Sports to 34.8 percent from the field. The Bobcats notched 6 steals for the game.
Stubbs finished the game with 4 points, Hillary Scott and Scotta Morton finished with 3, and Jaimey Tanner added 2.
The Bobcats begin its regular season when they face UC-Riverside on November 21 at 7:05 p.m. at Worthington Arena.
