Bobcat Harriers Run Well At Montana Invite

Gibson was second in the men's competition, completing the 8-kilometer course in 25 minutes, 11 seconds on the UM Golf Course. Lee was the runner-up in the women's race, finishing in 22:40 on the 6K trail.
Weber State's men and women both won the team titles while the Bobcat men took second and the women third. But the host Grizzlies edged MSU by one point in the men's dual scoring, which didn't please Bobcat coach Dale Kennedy.
"That was a gut-wrenching experience for us," Kennedy said.
Despite the dual loss to the Griz, Kennedy did find some positives to take away from MSU's second meet of the season.
"Jonathan Gibson made a real good account of himself," Kennedy said. "He and Kevin Clary (fifth place) and Tony Bachmann (10th) all ran real nice races. But after that, we've got a little trouble. (The rest of the Bobcats) ran as well as they could, but they're not quite there yet."
While Lee wound up pacing the MSU women, she - and the rest of the field - got a serious challenge from Bobcat Mayra Morgado. Morgado took the lead at the mile mark and held it until the two-mile point, but she ran out of steam near the end and finished fifth in 23:12.
Brooke Cantu, running in her first race this season, took 12th with a time of 23:57 for the 'Cats.
"I thought it was a bold, courageous move (by Morgado), but I think she overextended herself," Kennedy said. "She just took off and ran away from everybody, but she couldn't hang on at the end."
The Bobcats run again at the NCAA Pre-National race Oct. 18 in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
