Idaho State Spikers Sweep Past Bobcats

The victory pushes the Bengals into third place in the Big Sky Conference, while Montana State slips one game back of ISU.
“We didn’t play with any heart,” said MSU first-year head coach Miya Malauulu. “We got leads in all three games and thought we could rest on that. In this conference, you have to play every point.”
Montana State (14-7, 4-4) fell behind early in the opening stanza, before rallying to take an 18-15 advantage. Idaho State (15-6, 5-3) battled back with a 7-1 run to take a 22-19 lead. MSU answered back and tied the score at 24-all on a Kim Stonehouse kill, but the Bengals went on a 6-1 run to close out the game on a Gorny kill.
In the second game, MSU held a 24-21 advantage following a Kamber Kelly and Megan Zanto block. The Bobcats maintained a 26-24 lead, before Idaho State rattled off a 6-2 run to win the game on another Gorny kill.
Montana State took an early 7-3 lead in the final game, before the Bengals answered with an 11-4 run to stake a 14-11 advantage. With the game tied at 15-all, ISU pulled away with an 11-5 run to take a 26-20 lead. ISU won the game following a Meggie Malyurek hitting error.
Stonehouse, a freshman from Medicine Hat, Alberta, paced the Bobcats with 12 kills. Kelly dished out 28 assists and added a match-high 14 digs. MSU was out-hit by the Bengals .169 to .117. ISU also held an 8-7 advantage in blocking.
Montana State will play at Weber State on Saturday night.
