For the game, Sacramento State (10-7, 2-0) outhit the Bobcats .151 to .050. The Hornets also out-dug MSU 102 to 87.
“Neither team was an offensive juggernaut,” said MSU head coach Miya Malauulu. “The difference was that Sacramento State handled the ball and played better defense than we did (tonight).”
Montana State (10-5, 1-2) was led by Megan Zanto with 14 kills and eight blocks. MSU’s outside hitting contingent of Meggie Malyurek, LeAnn Kinvig, Nadine Goldi and Kim Stonehouse hit a combined -.032.
Defensively, the ‘Cats were led by Kamber Kelly with 19 digs, while Malyurek added 18, Kandice Kelly 14 and Goldi 11.
MSU will play at Northern Arizona on Saturday night.
