2003 Montana State Football Sunday Notebook
Montana State 26, Weber State 3 in Ogden, UT
INJURY REPORT: The Bobcats suffered only two slight injuries Saturday, a bruised thigh by DE Clive Lowe and a hamstring by OG Joaquin Echauri, but have plenty of leftover problems to deal with. OTs Dusty Daws and Joe Hirst are expected back from concussions, but OG Mataio Toilolo (knee) and Lawrence Figureoa (broken leg) are out. P/K Nate Cook suffered a dislocated toe Saturday in pre-game warm-ups, and is probable this week.

TEAM NOTES
• Montana State’s crowd of 13,527 in the last home game was its first-ever sellout of a non-Cat/Griz game, and MSU averages 12,097 for home games this year
• For the second straight year, Montana State rebounded from a league-opening loss to Idaho State by beating Weber State
• The Bobcats have currently lost two straight home games, but have won three straight conference road games (dating back to last season)
• MSU rolled up a season-high 453 yards of total offense against Weber State, the highest total since dominating Idaho State to the tune of 654 yards in the 10th game of the 2001 season
• Montana State was +4 in turnover margin on Saturday, and are now 3-1 this season when the offense has defense has more takeaways than the offense does turnovers
• Last year, MSU was +2 in turnover margin in its seven wins, -6 in its six losses. This year, the ‘Cats are -4 in the four losses, +10 in the three wins
• The Bobcat defense has allowed the opponent to gain more than 300 yards in back-to-back weeks, although Weber State had only 303 yards and gained 65 yards in the fourth quarter when the game’s outcome was no longer in doubt
• Montana State started 2-4 before winning its seventh game for the second year in a row
• When Joe Johnson’s field goal sailed through the uprights to culminate Weber’s first drive of the second half yesterday, it marked the first time a team has scored on the Bobcats in the third quarter this season
• The Bobcats have outscored their opponents 48-13 in the second quarter this year
• Nick Barbero’s 62-yard touchdown catch marked the second time in the last three weeks that the Bobcats have scored a touchdown on their first offensive drive of a game, but the first time all season that the ‘Cats have done so on the game’s first possession
• Montana State has now failed to produce a 100-yard rusher for back-to-back weeks for only the second time this year, and has not gone three weeks without a 100-yard back this season
• Montana State has had at least eight different players catch passes in each of the last four games
• The Bobcat offense was forced into five three-and-out situations against Weber State, the highest figure in one game this year
INDIVIDUAL NOTES/PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
OFFENSE: Brent Swaggert, OT, 6-4, 293, Sr, Buffalo, MN
OTHER NOTES: Scott Turnquist had his second straight seven-catch game, and his 114 receiving yards was his season high… Travis Lulay’s 324 yards passing against Weber State was his career high… his 62-yard pass to Nick Barbero was the fifth-longest completion in Lulay’s career, and the first catch of Barbero’s… Saturday was Lulay’s first four-TD day, and on a potential fifth scoring strike a Bobcat receiver fumbled the ball into the Wildcat end zone.
DEFENSE: Joe Thomas, CB, 6-2, 188, Sr, Seattle
Joey Thomas intercepted his first pass of the season Saturday, and helped limit Weber State to a 13-for-34 passing day. Thomas also had two solo tackles and a pass breakup, and contributed a nine-yard carry on offense.
OTHER NOTES: Beau Clark had a pair of sacks Saturday, and after getting 5.5 last season now his first two this season… after getting 1.5 sacks last weekend, Chad Gluhm now leads the team with 4.0 this year.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Jonathan Molock, LB, 6-1, 205, Sr, Lancaster, CA
OTHER NOTES: Registered three solo tackles as MSU’s punt cover gunner.
