Montana State Spikers Pillage Vikings

Montana State (13-6, 4-3) had its best hitting match of the season connecting at a .319 clip, while holding the Vikings to .109. MSU also held a 62 to 52 kill advantage as well as a commanding 15 to 3 blocking margin.
“We had a very balanced attack and I thought we did a nice job blocking,” said MSU first-year head coach Miya Malauulu. “Megan Zanto capped off a good weekend by leading us in hitting and blocking. She really set the tone for us against Portland State.”
Also notching double-digits for the Bobcats were freshman Kim Stonehouse with a career-high 12 kills, and Meggie Malyurek and LeAnn Kinvig with ten apiece. Setter Kamber Kelly dished out 40 assists and added seven kills and a team-high 13 digs.
Defensively, Zanto paced MSU with eight blocks, while Kelly added seven and Angela Wiebe notched five blocks.
“After a disappointing loss to Eastern Washington on Friday night, I was very happy with our response,” Malauulu said. “We took care of the details and it paid off.”
Portland State (10-8, 1-6) was paced in the loss by Richell Wilson with 17 kills, while Kristin Ratzlaff tallied a match-high 18 digs.
MSU will be at Idaho State next Friday night in Pocatello.
