Mick Durham opens his 14th season as Montana State's head basketball coach on Saturday when he welcomes 15 players to Worthington Arena.
The Bobcats open their exhibition season on November 10 against Simon Fraser, a time frame that gives the early days of practice a sense of urgency, Durham said. "We don't have a lot of time before we start playing, so we'll have to get a lot done between now and then."
Guard Jason Erickson anchors a five-member senior class which features four other players -- swing players Danny Faaborg, Josh Barsh and Zach Devine, and center Calvin Ento -- with starting experience. New transfers Matt Towsley, an imposing figure in the middle at 6-10, 255, and inside-outside forward Dennis Woodall, will bolster the front line. Bozeman High standouts Nick Dissly and PJ Owsley and former Roberts Rocket Carson Durr are new freshmen that look to energize the program.
Durham projects Erickson and mercurial point guard Frank Brown in the backcourt as the season begins, with Ento and Towsley manning the center position. The rest of the positions, however, are far less settled. Marcus Clift is the backup point guard, and Casey Durham, a redshirt candidate, can also perform those duties. Faaborg, Barsh, returning redshirt Wes Morales, and Durr can each play the two and three positions.
One unknown factor is Martrel Johnson, a freshman forward who can play either forward position. Johnson underwent a kidney transplant last year, and could redshirt.
