2003 Montana State All-Sports Release
for the week of October 16
Cross Country
This Week: NCAA Pre-Nationals Cross Country Invitational 10/18, Cedar Falls, IA
Last Week: Bye Week
The Bobcat harriers will travel to the NCAA Pre-Nationals Cross Country Invitational which will be held in Cedar Falls, IA. The meet will help to determine where the Bobcats are in the national picture. The Bobcat men will be lead by Kevin Clary and Jonathan Gibson. Ariana Lee and Mayra Morgado will lead the Bobcat women.
There will be a total of 82 teams represented at the race, by far the largest NCAA DI race in the country. On the men’s side, 33 nationally ranked teams will be present. 26 nationally ranked women’s teams will be represented in the women’s race.
This race could be the determining factor for the Bobcat men and women’s hopes of an at-large bid for the Big Dance.
Football

Last Week: Lost to Idaho State
Media: The game will be televised on Fox Sports Northwest, and may be heard throughout Montana on the Bobcat State Farm Radio Network and worldwide on www.msubobcats.com.
A pair of teams looking to get back into the swing of the Big Sky Conference race get together in Ogden’s Stewart Stadium on Saturday. Montana State and Weber State face off in a regionally televised game that will be seen throughout the west on Fox Sports Net.
The Bobcats dropped a heartbreaker last weekend to Idaho State, in front of the first sellout crowd for a non-Grizzly game in MSU history. MSU has lost four of its first six games this season, but have lost those four games by a grand total of 24 points. MSU continues to lead the Big Sky Conference in total defense.
Volleyball
This Week: Eastern Washington 10/17, Bozeman, MT, Portland State 10/18, Bozeman, MT
Last Week: Defeated Montana 3-0
Montana State swept intra-state and Big Sky Conference rival Montana 30-25, 32-30, and 30-21 in front of 4,741 fans. The crowd was the second largest in Montana State history. Meggie Malyurek paced the Bobcats with a match-high 16 kills and 18 digs, she hit .342 from the filed and added two blocks.
The Montana State volleyball squad will look to continue its short two-match win streak when they host Big Sky leading 5-0 Eastern Washington on Friday. MSU will meet league rival Portland State on Saturday. Both matches will at held at the Shroyer Gym.

Jesse Carl and Marek Gebicki won the Doubles match. Def. Potter-Chigateri (alumni/MSU) 9-8, Def Olson/ Strutts (MSU) 8-0, and Def. J. Cripe/ A. Cripe 8/2.
On the singles side Carl won the Men’s open Singles Consolation, he Def. Devidze (UA) 6-4, 6-1, Def. Nanson (UA) 6-2, 6-2, and Def. Adam Stutts (MSU) 7-5, 6-7, 6-4. Gebicki on the Men’s Open singles made it all the way to the Semifinal Round before losing 2-6, 7-6, 6-4.
Next up for the Bobcat men is the Region VII Tournament 10/20-21 in Las Vegas, NV.

Last Week: Defeated Eastern Washington and Lost to Gonzaga
The Bobcat women defeated Eastern Washington on Friday and lost to Gonzaga on Saturday in a non-traditional season.
The Women’s Tennis team will play host to Whitman College this Friday and will face intrastate MSU-Billings on Saturday.

Heather Farr Memorial at Omni-Interlocken Golf Course in Boulder, CO – par 72, 6158 yards(T-14th of 17, 330-325/654) T18. Tiffani Spring (73-79/152), T68. Erica Leslie (84-80/164), 77. Kylie Anderson (85-82/167), 83. Theresa DeWalt (88-84/172), T85. Amanda Nielson (88-86/174).
Tiffani Spring, MSU’s only senior, posted MSU’s low score for the tournament, and for each round in the tournament. Tiffani Spring has shot under 80 for the 5 consecutive rounds this season. The Bobcats travel to Boise State on Monday for their final meet of the season.
Basketball, Men's
This Week: Montana State begins practice on Saturday morning, October 18, at 10:00. Mick Durham opens his 14th season as MSU's head coach with returning starter Jason Erickson as the team's anchor. Swing players Josh Barsh and Danny Faaborg, center Calvin Ento, and point guard Frank Brown all bring starting experience to fall camp. New transfers Matt Towsley, an imposing figure at center, and Dennis Woodall, an inside-outside forward will bolster the Bobcats up front.

This Week: The MSU women's team will open defense of its Big Sky regular season title when practice opens Saturday afternoon. Seniors Katie Burrows, Sheila Hutchinson, and Belinda Stubbs will pace the Bobcats.
