Bobcats Drop Home Tilt to ISU

Idaho State jumpred on the Bobcats with two touchdowns in the first seven-and-a-half minutes of the game and for the second straight year kept the Bobcats at bay when MSU had a chance to win the game in the waning moments for a 23-17 road win over the Bobcats on Saturday.
Isaac Mitchell rushed for 112 yards on 24 carries and Mark Hetherington completd 13 of 27 passes for 139 yards and three touchdowns to lead Idaho State. Travis Lulay completed 24 of 41 passes for 195 yards and one TD for the 'Cats.
Bobcat coach Mike Kramer said the score was not indicative of ISU's dominance. "This clearly wasn't a 23-17 game," he said. "This game wasn't really close. Idaho State was in control and command and we didn't have a glimmer of hope of winning. I'm glad we rallied late and made it close, but Idaho State was in control throughout."
Idaho State set the tempo of the game by driving 58 yareds in five plays on the opening drive to take a 7-0 lead. "They took the opening kickoff and drove it right down the field on us," Kramer said. "We're not used to that, and it knocked us on our heels." It was ISU's first opening-drive score of the year, and the first such drive the 'Cats have allowed.
The Bobcats punted after their opening possession, and after holding the Bengals Corey Smith fumbled the ensuing punt at the Bobcat 13. The Bengals scored on the third play, and led 14-0.
The Bobcats got on the board early in the second quarter with a 32-yard Nate Cook field goal, but Idaho State struck for the decisive score late in the second half. On a second-and-nine from the Bobcat 25, Brett Fowler made a spectacular catch on that featured a controversial pass interference call on MSU. Idaho State took that 20-3 score into the locker room.
The Bobcats rallied in the fourth quarter to make the game close. Travis Lulay found Scott Turnquist for a 10-yard touchdown, and after a Bengal field goal Lulay scored himself on a five-yard run.
Still, the day belonged to the ISU offense. "I can't diminish the fact that Idaho State's offense didn't something that our defense is not used to. The rocked us off the ball and took it to us. They made plays and made things happen. They controlled the game."
