Montana State Harriers Travel to Missoula

Competing in the race with the Bobcats and Montana will be Weber State, Idaho State and Eastern Washington.
“We’re looking forward to this weekend,” said MSU head coach Dale Kennedy. “We have been off from competition since the MSU Invitational and the kids are very anxious to race.”
The Montana State men’s team will be led by Kevin Clary and Jonathan Gibson, who finished first and second for the Bobcats at the MSU Invitational. MSU will also look for Tony Bachmann, Josh Ricardi, Caleb Ambrose and Brett Winegar to round-out the team scoring.
“We have had two great weeks of training,” Kennedy said. “Kevin (Clary) and Jonathan (Gibson) have established themselves as our front-runners, but where I’m most excited is the development and performance of next four runners. They will be the key to how we finish this weekend.”
The Montana State women’s team also has a pair of front-runners, who are beginning to emerge at the national level. Big Sky Conference Runner of the Week Ariana Lee and junior Mayra Morgado will be MSU’s one-two punch this weekend.
Also looking to make a contribution this Saturday will be Brooke Cantu, Christin Drake, Sierra Kuethe, Ellen Swogger and Courtney Hugstad-Vaa. Cantu returns to the Bobcat line-up after sitting out the MSU Invitational due to eligibility issues.
“It’s going to be nice to have Brooke (Cantu) back in the line-up,” Kennedy said. “She’ll be a shot in the arm and will help our 3-4-5-6 kids along. Obviously, Ari (Lee) and Mayra (Morgado) will be leading the pack. However, it’s going to be what we do in the next four or five spots that will determine our finish.”
NOTE: Montana State senior Ariana Lee was named Big Sky Conference Runner of the Week for her efforts at the MSU Invitational, Sept. 20. The native of Lander, Wyo., won the MSU Invitational, finishing the three-mile course in 18:00.58.
