MSU Spikers Open Big Sky Road Slate in Sacramento

The Montana State volleyball squad will open its Big Sky Conference road slate when they travel to the heart of Northern California to face perennial league power Sacramento State, Thursday, Oct. 2 at 8 p.m. (MST) in Hornet Gym. The Bobcats will conclude their road trip in Flagstaff, Ariz., on Saturday, Oct. 5 when they face Northern Arizona at 8 p.m. in the Rolle Activity Center, more commonly referred to as the RAC.

REWRAPPING THE WEEK THAT WAS:
Montana State opened its Big Sky Conference season with a convincing 30-14, 30-22, 30-28 victory over Idaho State, last Thursday night. MSU had a balanced attack against the Benglas as four players notched seven or more kills. Sophomore Meggie Malyuerk led the ‘Cats with a team-high nine kills. Setter Kamber Kelly finished the match with 26 assists, a team-high 14 digs, seven kills, seven digs and a service ace. Also contributing to the Bobcat attack was freshman Angela Wiebe. The native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, tallied seven kills, a .368 hitting percentage and three block assists. On Saturday night, the Bobcats dropped a 26-30, 30-24, 29-30, 30-25, 17-15 decision to Weber State in front of 2,033 fans in Shroyer Gym. For the match, MSU hit a platry .119 from the field and were out-blocked 12.5 to 11. Freshman Nadie Göldi notched 19 kills and 15 digs, while Malyurek added 16 kills and 18 digs.
MONTANA STATE UNIVERSITY PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
True freshman libero Kandice Kelly was named Montana State’s Player of the Week for her efforts against Idaho State and Weber State, last weekend. Kelly, the younger sister of Bobcat setter Kamber Kelly, averaged 3.13 digs over the course of eight games. The native of Roundup, Mont., had her best match of the weekend against Weber State with 18 digs. She also dished out six assists from the back row.
CROWD CRAZY:
Montana State has been consistently ranked among the nation’s top 25 programs based on attendance. Currently, the Bobcats are averaging 1,167 fans per game, which ranks 24th overall. Last Saturday, Montana State jammed 2,033 people into Shroyer Gym. On Oct. 10, the Bobcats will look to break their all-time mark of 6,378 fans in the annual ‘Cat-Griz clash.
