Bobcat Spikers Close Out Tourney With Win Over Florida Atlantic

Montana State's Aimee Halyk notched a match-high 14 kills and middle blocker Megan Zantochipped in 11 kills and five blocks to lift the Bobcats to a 30-28, 30-19, 30-19 victory over
Florida Atlantic in the Mizuno-Holiday Inn Classic. Eastern Michigan won the tournament title
with a 3-0 win over Gonzaga, Saturday evening.
I'm really pleased with how we responded from our loss earlier in the day, said MSU head
coach Dave Gantt. The earlier loss was a teachable moment. Florida Atlantic made a run at us
in game 1, but we got things straightened out and did a nice job over the course of the match.
Montana State (6-2) got down early in the opening game as the Owls took a 15-10
advantage. The Bobcats rallied back to tie the score at 20-all on a Nikki Donald kill. MSU
increased the margin to 27-25 and won the game on an Ana Schanze kill.
In the second game, the ‘Cats stormed to a 16-9 lead and cruised to the win following a
Florida Atlantic (2-6) hitting error. In the final stanza, MSU took a 19-13 margin on a Schanze
and Kamber Kelly block and won the match following a FAU hitting error.
We need to get better with each game and realize that we can't play like freshmen, Ganttsaid. I'm pleased that we were more competitive and maintained a high level of play for mostof the match.
Also contributing to the Bobcat win were Kamber Kelly, who dished out 36 assists and had amatch-high 12 digs, and Schanze, who finished with five kills, a .556 attack mark, seven digsand five blocks.
FAU was paced by Abby Miner with 14 kills and eight digs.
Named to the Mizuno-Holiday Inn Classic All-Tournament team were Kelly, Schanze, Miner,Christina Davis of Gonzaga, Shayna Munson of Eastern Michigan and Camilo Olaio of EasternMichigan, who was tabbed tourney MVP.
