Monta State's Blake Named Montana NCAA Woman of the Year

Conference MVP, Jessica Blake-Carlson, has been named the2002 Montana NCAA Woman of the Year. The prestigioushonor is awarded to outstanding female student-athletes whohave excelled in academics, athletics and community leadership.
More than 340 student-athletes were nominated for this year'saward by their colleges or universities. In all, 51student-athletes representing the states and the District of
Columbia garnered the award.
Jessica should be commended for her hard work in the
classroom, on the basketball court and within the community,
said MSU athletic director Peter Fields. She personifies the type of student-athlete that makes
Montana State University unique. We are very proud of her accomplishments. Jessica has
represented the Bobcat athletic department and Montana State in a very positive and special
manner.
Blake, who graduated from MSU this spring with a degree in psychology, earned a 3.7
grade-point average. A two-time all-conference and all-academic Big Sky honoree, she was a
recipient of the prestigious 2002 NCAA Post Graduate Scholarship. In addition,
Blake-Carlson volunteered for a crisis hotline; taught spanish to emotionally disturbed
individuals; and helped teach in an orphanage in Costa Rica.
A national winner - the NCAA Woman of the Year- will be selected by the NCAACommittee on Women's Athletics from among 10 finalists. The finalists will be announced inmid-September. The national winner will be announced in November. This is the 12th year thatthe award- one of the top honors the NCAA bestows- will be given.
