its 2002 Big Sky Conference season wheny they host Portland State, Friday, Sept. 27 at 7p.m., in Shroyer Gym. The Bobcats will continue their homestand when the meet No. 23Eastern Washington University, Saturday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. With their trip to NewHampshire last weekend, the ‘Cats concluded its non-conference season with a 10-5 slate.

LIVE FREE OR DIE: For the Bobcat volleyball team it was feast or famine, or as the say in
New Hampshire "Live Free or Die." MSU gave up a pair of leads in crucial games as they
dropped consecutive 3-2 decision to New Hampshire and Kent State. Fortunately, MSU
didn’t roll over, and instead countered with two straight 3-0 victories over North Carolina
State and Dartmouth. At the UNH tournament, Montana State suffered a 30-20, 29-31,
25-30, 30-27, 15-9 setback to the Wildcats. MSU was led by LeAnn Kinvig with 17 kills.
The ‘Cats dropped their second straight five game match (30-15, 25-30, 30-26, 30-25,
18-16) to Kent State. MSU had three match-points in the final game. Kinvig again led
Montana State with 16 kills. MSU then rebounded with a 30-22, 30-20, 30-20 victory over
NC State, and a 30-26, 30-15, 30-17 win over Dartmouth.
BOBCAT PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Sophomore LeAnn Kinvig was named the Montana
State University Player of the Week for her efforts at the University of New Hampshire
tournament. On the weekend, sh tallied 45 kills and 37 digs, including 17 winners versus
UNH.
SCOUTING THE VIKINGS AND EAGLES: Portland State enters Friday’s match with a
5-2 overall mark. The Vikings did not play last weekend, and were on an exhibition tour two
weeks ago. They have posted wins over Louisiana-Monroe, UTEP, Portland, Drake and
Western Illinois, while losing to Wisconsin- Green Bay and New Mexico State. PSU is led by
senior transfer Katie Kost, who is averaging 4.00 kills and hitting .436. No. 22 ranked Eastern
Washington will play at Montana on Friday night before making the trip to Bozeman. The
Eagles are undefeated (13-0) on the season and have only dropped two games on the year.
EWU is paced by senior Janelle Ruen, who is averaging 3.17 kills, 3.17 digs, while hitting .270
from the floor.
BIG SKY CONFERENCE PRESEASON POLL: The Bobcats were picked to finish third
in the preseason Big Sky Conference Coaches Poll. Defending regular-season champions
Sacramento State and Big Sky tourney champ Eastern Washington tied with 46 votes,
followed by MSU 32, Weber State 31, Northern Arizona 25, Idaho State 17, Montana 17,
and Portland State 10. Last season, the Bobcats finished 5th with an 8-6 league record.
EVERYTHING’S COMING UP ACES: The Bobcats did a nice job at the service line in
New Hampshire. In their four matches, MSU tallied 34 aces. Meggie Malyurek recorded a
team-high 11 aces on the weekend, while Kamber Kelly tossed up ten aces. Six Bobcats have
10 or more aces on the season.
NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK: MSU is ranked 11th in the nation in blocking this week,
averaging 3.26 per game. Individually, senior Ana Schanze is ranked 3rd in the nation,
averaging 1.69 per outing. In all, four Bobcats are over 1.00 blocks per game.
HAMMER TIME: Senior Aimee Halyk was named to her second straight all-tournament
team at New Hampshire. Halyk, a 6-foot outside hitter from Esterhazy, Saskatchewan, totaled
36 kills and 16 blocks, while notching two matches in which she hit .500 or better. Halyk had
her best match of the tourney with 11 kills, a .588 attack mark and seven block assists in
MSU’s 3-2 setback to Kent State. Against Dartmouth on Sunday, she notched seven kills and
a match-high seven blocks against the Big Green.
A HELPING HAND: Setter Kamber Kelly dished out 157 assists over the four matches in
the Green Mountain State. The 5-foot-9 native of Roundup also recorded 11 kills and two
double-doubles at the UNH Tournament.
A MEGGIE MOMENT: Freshman redshirt Meggie Malyurek led the Bobcats in their 3-0
sweep over Dartmouth. The graduate of Big Horn High School in Wyoming notched a
match-high 14 kills, while chipping in 13 digs.
KEEN ON KIKI: Kiki Pemöller, a transfer from the University of Hamburg in Germany, had
her second match with 20 digs against New Hampshire. As the libero, she’s averaging 2.33
digs.
SIMPLY ZANTOLATING: Redshirt freshman Megan Zanto is ranked 8th in the nation in
hitting percentage with a .436 attack mark. Last weekend, she had 24 kills and hit .435 from
the field.
SCHANZE SHINES: Senior Ana Schanze tallied 20 blocks last weekend. Her 1.69 blocks
per game average is tops in the Big Sky Conference and third in the nation. In addition, she
also chipped in 30 kills, three aces and 18 digs on the weekend.
NOTICING NATALIE: Junior transfer Natalie Paredes made her first appearance for the
Bobcats in New Hampshire. On the weekend, she recorded 24 assists, 20 digs and served
one ace.
THE STOBBINATOR: Senior Lindsay Stobbs had an impressive weekend for the ‘Cats,
notching 20 kills, a .319 attack mark and 15 blocks.
DONALD DELIGHTS: Freshman Nikki Donald played at outside and libero and notched
17 kills and 31 digs for the weekend.
