Bobcat Spikers Break Hitting Record in Win Over Seton Hall

Ankle Tournament with a 30-15, 30-19, 30-20 win over Seton Hall, Friday night. En route,the Bobcats set a school record hitting .478 from the field to break the old mark of .474 set in 1996
Freshman redshirt Meggie Malyurek paced the ‘Cats with ten kills and eight digs, whileLindsay Stobbs chipped in eight kills, a .889 hitting percentage and three blocks. SetterKamber Kelly sparked MSU with 38 assists and seven digs. MSU also came close to the
school record of 18 aces, serving up 16 against the Pirates. Megan Zanto notched five
winners, while Nikki Donald and Malyurek had four aces each.
"We served much better than what we did earlier in the day against Morehead State," said
Bobcat head coach Dave Gantt. "We serve-received better, and when you do those two
things, you keep the pressure on the opponent.
"We found our personality in the match and we need to continue to develop it. We had a few
breakdowns, but we stayed patient and racked-up some good numbers."
MSU opened the game with a 5-0 run and built its lead to 14-6 following a pair of Zanto aces.
The ‘Cats won the opening game on a Donald kill. In game two, MSU took a 19-10
advantage following a Zanto block and finished off the set on an Aimee Halyk kill. In the final
game, MSU stormed to a 7-1 lead following a Lindsay Stobbs block and cruised to the win
after a Malyurek kill.
MSU will face Central Florida and Indiana State on Saturday.
