215 lb power forward Calvin Ento from Tacoma, Wash., Community College.
Ento, whose Tacoma teammate Josh Barsh signed with the Bobcats in the fall, was Most
Valuable Player of his conference’s all-star game, getting 23 points and eight rebounds. He
was a first team all-league choice, averaging 18.3 points, 10.1 rebounds, 1.7 blocks and 1.8
steals a game. He shot 66.7% from the field, a school record, for a team that finished 30-3 this
season.
"I believe Calvin is a good fit for our program. He really got used to winning at Tacoma
Community College," MSU Head Coach Mick Durhamsaid of Ento, who finished his Tacoma
career with a 58-8 record. "He can score in a variety of ways, and really runs the floor. Calvin
is a very good athlete who really rebounds the ball well."
Tacoma coach Karl Howell agrees with Durham’s assessment. "He is an extremely athletic
forward who can guard a variety of positions," said Howell, one of the most successful junior
college coaches on the west coast. "He’s probably the best rebounder I’ve ever had. He really
knows how to play."
Ento played inside last year for Tacoma, and Durham said he projects as a power forward inthe MSU system. "I believe Calvin’s best basketball is ahead of him. I’m very excited to seehim in a Bobcat uniform. He can add to our program at both ends of the court."Howell said that Ento’s versatility and athleticism on both ends of the floor will help the ‘Cats."Calvin is not a pure three-point shooter, but he has 15- to 18-foot range, he can pass it, hecan handle it. We just didn’t have him on the perimeter a lot because he was such adevestating player inside. He’s a great offensive rebounder. He can play with his back to thebasket, but he can also face up and put the ball in the hoop. He’s a very versatile player."Ento was a two-time First Team All-State choice choice for Class 2A Vashon Island, Wash.,High, where he averaged 24 points and 16 rebounds a game as a senior. He joins a Bobcatteam that was 20-10 last year, and which won the Big Sky Championship and a game in theNIT.
