Bobcat Women Claim Piece of Big Sky Regular-Season Title

MSU received a gold medal performance from seniorJessica Blake, who recorded a game-high 19 points and ten
rebounds as the Bobcats posted a 64- 55 victory over the
Lady Griz.
This is a very sweet victory, Potera said. The kids worked
very hard and their effort was tremendous. They fed off the
crowd and we're going to enjoy this win for the next 48-hours.
Montana State (17-10, 11-3) opened the game on a 7-0 run and built the margin to 25-11 at
the 11:12 mark on a Rebecca Alvidrez field-goal. Montana (18-9, 10-4) rallied with a 15-7
run to cut the margin to 32-26 at intermission.
We knew we had to get off to a great start, Potera said. It was important for us to get
Montana out of their zone.
In the second stanza, MSU built a 37-30 lead at the 16:21 mark on a Kati Burrows basket,
before the Lady Griz answered with a 7-2 run to cut the deficit to 39-37 with 12:31 remaining
on a Hollie Tyler field-goal. However, the ‘Cats rallied with seven consecutive points, including
four from Blake and a three-pointer from Alvidrez. MSU stretched its advantage to 58-43
with 3:17 left on another Blake bucket. The Bobcats converted six-of-ten free throws in the
final minute to secure the win.
We played with great defensive intensity, Potera said. I'm very proud of our two seniors and
the effort they gave us. What a spectacular Senior Night it was for Jessica Blake and Rebecca
Alvidrez.
Aside from Blake's double-double, Alvidrez ended the game with 13 points, eight rebounds
and three assists. Also in double-digits was Kati Burrows with
ten points. Junior Isabel Stubbs gave MSU a lift early, scoring
all nine of her points in the first half. She also ended the game
with nine rebounds.
Montana was led in the loss by Cheryl Keller with 12 pointsand 12 rebounds, while Julie Deming, who was plagued by foultrouble, added 13 points.
For the game, the Bobcats shot 44 percent from the field, whileholding Montana to 35 percent. MSU also owned a narrow37-36 advantage on the boards and converted 24-of-33 freethrows, while UM went eight-of-15 from the line.
The win gives MSU a share of its first league title since 1993.MSU will now await the outcome of the Weber State-Idaho State game on Saturday night. AnISU win would give the ‘Cats the outright league title and Big Sky hosting honors, while aWSU win would send the tournament to Ogden.
