Stubbs Hits 1000 As 'Cats Cage T-Birds

Montana State sophomore Kati Burrows notched a game-high21 points and teammate Brandi Lewis added a season-high 19points as the Bobcats recorded an 80-70 victory over SouthernUtah, Saturday night.
"It seemed like the Twilight Zone at times," said Montana Statesecond-year head coach Robin Potera-Haskins. "But that’s life
on the road. Playing on the road is a different world. However,
the bottom line is that we got the win."
In addition, Montana State (8-1) senior Isabel Stubbs tallied 17
points, including 14 in the first stanza. The 6-foot-2 native of
Ayr, Australia, recorded her 1000th point at Montana State at
the 2:59 mark of the first half on a lay-in from Candis Wilcox.
"It’s a great accomplishment for Isabel (Stubbs)," Potera-Haskins said. "She did a great job,
especially in the first half."
In the first stanza, the two teams traded leads ten times in the early going. With Southern Utah
(5-4) leading 21-20 at the 8:06 mark, the Bobcats rattled off a 22-5 run to take a 42-25
advantage with 2:20 remaining on a pair of Burrows free throws. Montana State entered
intermission with a 46-30 lead.
In the second half, MSU built its largest lead of the game at 69-50 on a Lewis lay-up with 7:55remaining. However, the Thunderbirds closed to within 73-64 at the 2:05 mark on a pair offree throws by Shauntel Garrett. The Bobcats closed out the game hitting seven-of-ten freethrows down the stretch.
For the game, MSU shot 52 percent from the field, including a red hot 58 percent in thesecond half. The Bobcats were paced under the boards by Burrows and Cassie Johnson withseven rebounds, apiece.
Southern Utah was led in the loss by Casey Cooke with 20 points, including a four-of-eighteffort from three-point range.
Montana State will play at Brigham Young on Monday afternoon in Provo, Utah.
