Bobcat spikers win Big Sky opener with victory over Vikings

In addition, senior Aimee Halyk tallied 13 kills and four blocks to help the Bobcat effort. Halyk’s total gives her 1000 on her career, making only the 12th Bobcat in history to accomplish the milestone.
"It was another survival match," said MSU head coach Dave Gantt. "When we don’t serve-receive well and get out of system our performance suffers. We just played at a little higher level, but it wasn’t over a long period of time."
Montana State (21-9) out-blocked the Vikings 11 to 8, and were paced by Lindsay Stobbs with a match-high six block assists. Setter Kamber Kelly dished out 41 assists and added eight digs in the victory.
"I thought we did some nice things and LeAnn Kinvig did a good job offensively," Gantt said. "However, we need to start playing championship volleyball. Our play against Portland State won’t get the job done against Sacramento.
"On the other hand, we’ve won nine of the last 11 matches, so we’re figuring out a way to win.
The Bobcats won their 21st match of the season, tying the modern era mark for most victories of the season with the 1998 squad.
Portland State (10-14) was led in the loss by Richell Wilson who recorded 26 kills and ten digs.
