Bobcat Spikers Go The Distance to Down the Griz

Zanto, a freshman from Helena, ended thegame with a .484 attack and sevenblocks. Also recording double-figures forMontana State (15-7, 5-2) were NikkiDonald 14, Ana Schanze 10, and LeAnnKinvig 10. Schanze, who came into thematch ranked third in the nation inblocking, tallied a match-high eightblocks.
"I thought we did a nice job staying
patient the entire match," said MSU head
coach Dave Gantt, who played his final
contest at Montana. "There were times
when our passing broke down, but the
kids stayed with it and did an excellent
job closing out the match."
Defensively, the Bobcats had four players in double-digits, as well. MSU was paced by
Kamber Kelly with 18, Kinvig 17, Donald 13 and Aimee Halyk with ten. Kelly, a sophomore
from Roundup, also dished out 47 assists and added eight blocks.
Montana (7-10, 1-6) was led by Whitney Pavlik and Lizzie Wertz with 23 and 20 kills,
respectively.
Montana State will play at No. 15 Eastern Washington next Friday.

Montana State opened the final stanza taking a 3-1 margin following a Kubista hitting error.
Montana tied the score at 3-3, after a Teresa Stringer freeball landed inside the end line. MSU
then rattled off a 5-0 run to take an 8-4 advantage at the switch. The Bobcats held its margin
and increased the lead to 12-6 following an Ana Schanze kill. A Lizzie Wertz hitting error gave
MSU a 14-8 advantage, but a Megan Zanto blocking error forced one more play and the
Bobcats captured the match on another Wertz hitting error.
Game 4

MSU opened the fourth stanza taking a 12-8 lead. However, Montana battled back and
knotted the game at 16-16. Bobcat senior Ana Schanze rattled off a pair of blocks, a kill and
an ace, and Montana State went ahead 26-21. Following a LeAnn Kinvig kill, MSU had a
27-21 margin, but the Grizzlies fought back to tie the score at 27-27. MSU then received a kill
from Megan Zanto and two consecutive winners by Nikki Donald to send the match to a fifth
and deciding game.

In a game that featured eight ties in the early going, Montana took advantage of several Bobcat
passing errors to open up a 19-15 lead on a Grizzly ace. Montana State closed to within
25-23 on a Nikki Donald kill, but Montana took advantage of two Bobcat hitting errors to go
up 28-23 and won the game as MSU’s Aimee Halyk served long. Freshman Nikki Donald
paced the Bobcats with five kills.

Once the Bobcats broke away from a 12-10 contest, it was all
MSU. Three consecutive Montana miscues gave the Bobcats a
19-13 lead and the ‘Cats pulled away on an Ana Schanze kill.
Montana State held its margin and led 26-15 following three
straight blocks. Three Montana hitting errors pushed the
advantage to 29-19 and the Bobcats evened the match at 1-1
following a Whitney Pavlik serving error. For the game, MSU
hit .281 and held the Grizzlies to .064. After two games, the
Bobcats held a 10 to 7 blocking advantage.

Montana State errors gave Montana a 10-5 advantage, before the ‘Cats closed to within
