Wallis and Kellogg Named Bobcat Women's Assistant Coaches

The hiring of Matt and Mark is critical to the future success of the program, Potera said.They both will add a tremendous amount of integrity and intelligence to the program. BothMatt and Mark are outstanding coaches and they were great collegiate players, as well. Theyare very trustworthy, loyal and as a coaching staff we have great chemistry.
Wallis, a graduate of Austin College, coached with Potera last season at Texas Wesleyan and
helped guide the Lady Rams to a 21-6 overall mark and a second-place finish in the Heartland
Conference. He also served at his alma mater as a women's assistant coach from 1996-99,
helping the Lady Kangaroos to consecutive Sweet 16 appearances. Wallis was head boys'
coach at Tom Bean High School in Sherman, Texas, during the 1999-2000 campaign, leading
his squad to the Bi-District championship. During the summer, he has worked with the Dallas
Maverick's Basketball Camps. Wallis earned his master's degree in kinesiology from Texas
A&M Commerce in 1998.
As a player, Wallis lettered three seasons at Austin College. He was a 1996-97 American
Southwest All-Conference honorable mention pick; a 1996-97 Arlington Morning News
First-Team All Sports Zone honoree; and served as team co-captain. He also ranked among
the top five in the nation in field-goal percentage his senior season.
Wallis will be responsible for post players, scheduling, recruiting, practice planning and
academics.
Matt is an exceptional communicator, Potera said. He has a great ability to help student-
athletes reach their full potential. He is a very confident coach and will help us increase our skill
level.
Mark Kellogg, a 1998 graduate of Austin College, served as an assistant men's coach at West
Texas A&M University from 1998-2000. He helped guided West Texas A&M to a 43-15
mark during his tenure, including back-to-back 20 win seasons. Kellogg also helped lead the
Buffaloes to the Lone Star Conference title with a 13-1 mark during the 1998-99 season.
Kellogg earned his master's degree in sports and exercise science from West Texas A&M in
2000. He also worked the Dallas Maverick's Basketball Camps.
As a player, Kellogg is the fourth all-time leading scorer in Austin College history, amassing
1,446 points. He was also a Jostens Trophy Finalist, an award given to the NCAA Division III
Basketball Athlete of the Year. Kellogg was three-time American Southwest All-Conference
selection; a two-time American Southwest All-Academic pick; and was an All-District VIAcademic choice, as well.He was nationally ranked in free throw percentage, three point field-goals per game andscoring.
Mark is a proven winner, Potera said. He is a great motivator and his court sense istremendous. Mark will also play a major role in our defensive schemes and game strategies.
Kellogg will be responsible for guards, camps, practice planning, recruiting and communityaffairs.
