McCarthy Withdraws From consideration for Women's Basketball Post

State University for the past two seasons, has withdrawn his name from consideration for thefull-time position.
Regrettably, Frank McCarthy has withdrawn his name from consideration as head women'sbasketball coach at Montana State University, said MSU Vice President of Student Affairs,
Dr. Allen Yarnell. Coach McCarthy was involved in a situation that compromised the search
process. He recognized his mistake and has taken this action to maintain the integrity of the
search process and the University.
According to MSU Athletics Director Chuck Lindemenn, McCarthy made an improper
contact with a member of the search committee, which tainted the process and compromised
the integrity of the search.
I made a mistake in talking to a committee member and it's in the best interest of the program
and school that I withdraw from the search, McCarthy said. I've always believed that things
happen for a reason. Adversity only makes you stronger. I will bounce back.
McCarthy was one of two candidates to interview for the position last week.
Frank McCarthy is no longer a candidate for the position of women's basketball coach at
Montana State, Lindemenn said. He made a judgement error, and unfortunately that errorhas cost him the opportunity to pursue this position further. I am greatly saddened by this turnof events, because I have a tremendous amount of respect for Frank as a recruiter, a coach,and a motivator of young people.
McCarthy was 24-31 in two seasons as Montana State's interim women's basketball coachand led the Bobcats to an 18-10 overall mark this winter and a first-round bye in the Big SkyConference Tournament. He previously was the head coach at MSU-Billings for ten seasons.McCarthy's overall record stood at 214-121 in 12 seasons. He replaced Tracey Sheehan onthe MSU bench in November, 1999.
The search process to fill the position on a permanent basis began in February and willcontinue until completed.
