Magnus Captures NCAA Western Regional Title in Classic Style

Magnus, a native of Oslo, Norway, won the individual title by finishing the race in a time of 17:16, one-tenth of a second ahead of New Mexico's Kristina Strandberg.
Marianne (Magnus) keeps getting faster and faster and she put it all together for this race, said MSU nordic coach Greg Johnson. She is at peak condition and her technique is excellent. She'll have a great shot at All-America status as well as a national championship in a couple of weeks.
Also finishing in the top ten for Montana State was Maria Kalnaes, who placed eighth in a time of 17:38. Other MSU finishers included, Adinda Demske, 22nd, 18:49; Emily Vangorp, 24th, 19:43; Patricia Fellman, 25th, 19:47; and Sarah Stehn, 28th, 20:12.
As a team, the Bobcat nordic squad placed third overall in the women's scoring with 56 points. Denver won the team race with 65 points, followed by New Mexico 64, MSU, Colorado 56, Utah 45, Nevada 29, Alaska-Anchorage 26 and Western State 16.
MSU will compete in the 15-kilometer freestyle event of Saturday.
