Montana State received a balanced attack as four startersreached double-figure scoring, including a game-high 16 points
from Jessica Blake to post a 68-53 victory over Wyoming,
Tuesday night.
We really established our fastbreak in the first half and
Rebecca Alvidrez did an outstanding job running the show,
said MSU head coach Robin Potera. We had our best game in
terms of balance and we competed very hard from beginning to
end. This was a great win over a very good team.
Montana State (4-3) built a 23-10 lead in the first half on a
Blake field-goal at the 8:02 mark. The Bobcats expanded their
margin to 33-15 on an Alvidrez basket, before Wyoming (3-3)
responded with a 10-4 run to close to within 37-25 at halftime.
We dominated the first 17-minutes, Potera said. However, we had a little letdown right
before halftime. I was very pleased with how we came out in the second half and we did a nice
job maintaining the lead.
In the second stanza, the Bobcats took their largest lead of the game at 50-29 on a Kati
Burrows three-point play with 14:49 remaining. Wyoming made one final charge and closed
the gap to 62-51 with 1:10 remaining; however, the Bobcats outscored UW 6-2 in the last
minute to record the victory.
Also contributing to the Montana State effort was Burrows, who notched her first collegiate
double-double, with 15 points and ten rebounds. Alvidrez, a 5-foot-7 guard from
Albuquerque, NM, tallied 13 points, including 11 in the first half. Also in double-figures was
Candis Wilcox with ten points.
For the game, MSU shot 42 percent from the field, including 47 percent from the floor in the
first stanza. The Bobcat defense also played a major role keeping the Cowgirls to 32 percent
from the field and forcing 30 UW turnovers.
Wyoming was led in scoring by Ann McColl with 19 points and 12 rebounds.
We wanted to play on all cylinders, Potera said. We're becoming a good defensive teamand a very smart squad. It was a great win and one we wanted very badly.
Montana State will play at #3 Oklahoma, Saturday, Dec. 8 at 12 noon (MST).
