Reigning Big Sky champion Sacramento State outhit Montana State .300 to .174 to notch a30-25, 30-25, 30-23 victory over the Bobcats, Friday night in the semifinals of the leaguetournament.
It was one of those matches were we didn't play that badly, said MSU head coach DaveGantt. It was just that Sacramento State played championship volleyball and we didn't.
The Hornets, who advanced to the title match against Eastern Washington, were paced byKazmiera Imrie with 15 kills, while Tasman Dwyer and Jayme Wright added 14 and 13,respectively. Sacramento State (20-8) also held a noticeable 12.5 to 5.0 edge in blocking.
We didn't serve tough enough to keep them out of their rhythm, Gantt said. You have togive Sacramento a lot of credit, they're a very well coached team and got the job done.
Montana State (18-7) was led by Anne Watts and Aimee Halyk with nine kills a piece.Lorraine Morrison dished out 32 assists and added seven digs.
We just couldn't get anything going on offense and didn't create any opportunities to score,Gantt added. We played them even until 20 points, and then they would go on a three or fourpoint run.
The Bobcats finished the 2001 campaign with their seventh consecutive winning season underGantt. MSU will return four All-Big Sky Conference players (Watts, Halyk, Lundqvist,Schaefer) and the league freshman of the year, Kamber Kelly, next season. The Bobcatsgraduate two seniors: Julia Handwerk and Lorraine Morrison.
