Colorado Assistant Tabbed as New Bobcat Men's Tennis Coach

of Colorado, has been named head men's coach at MontanaState University, announced MSU associate athletics director,Dan Davies.
We're very excited to have someone of Mike's caliber takeover the men's program, Davies said. It is exciting to have acoach with Mike's passion, energy and vision. He emerged asour leading candidate early in the process and he stayed at thetop of our list throughout the search.
Phillips has served as men's assistant coach at CU since 1997,under the direction of Scott Davidhoff. The Buffaloes posted an11-11 mark last season, and notched 33 wins during his tenurein Boulder. This spring, Colorado ended their season with a
loss to fourth-ranked Baylor at the Big 12 Championships.
I'm looking forward to the challenge of being the next head coach at Montana State, Phillips
said. The men's team had an outstanding season and Coach Owen did a fantastic job with the
guys. We'll look to use their success this season as a springboard for the future. I feel that this
is a great opportunity and I look forward to working with the MSU administration, athletes and
the Bozeman tennis community.
Prior to his time at CU, Phillips served as a tennis pro for two years at the Breckenridge
Recreation Center and was the head pro and program director at the Boulder Country Club
for four years. He also served as a tennis pro at the Tennis Club of Albuquerque.
As a player, he played collegiately at Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colo., where his
team was ranked in the top 20 of the NAIA. Phillips was twice named MVP of the Mavericks
in his four-year career.
A native of Las Cruces, N.M., Phillips earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology in 1999 fromColorado. He and his wife Ginger, a former CU women's assistant coach, have conductednumerous camps and clinics throughout the Unites States.
Phillips will begin his duties at Montana State University in August.
