Sky Conference champions, will face the University of Texas in first-round action in theNCAA Championships. The two squads will play Saturday, May 13 at the Boise Racquet andSwim Club, in Boise, Idaho. Boise State will host the first and second rounds, and will playOhio State in opening round action, as well.
We're very excited about heading to Boise State, said MSU men's coach Dean Owen.
We've played on their courts on numerous occasions and we're very familiar with the
surroundings. We don't know a lot about Texas and we'll relish in the under-dog role. I
don't think we'll have any pressure. We'll just go into the match and give it our all. We're
looking forward to the challenge.
The Bobcats earned their first-ever trip to the NCAA Championships, after defeating Cal
State Sacramento, 4-3, in the Big Sky Conference title match on April 22. MSU is 12-10 on
the season, and have won four consecutive matches. In the last month, the Bobcats have been
paced by their two seniors, Kris Hauck and Kevin Reeder. Hauck has posted an 8-11 mark
at No. 5 singles, while Reeder has notched a 6-1 ledger at No. 6 singles. The duo has
combined for a perfect 8-0 mark at No. 3 singles.
The kids are playing very loose and they're ready for the opportunity to play Texas,
Owen said. Our two seniors have been instrumental in our late-season surge, and
hopefully, that will carry over into next week.
Texas is 18-6 overall and are the 15th-seed in the tournament. This will be the first-evermeeting between Texas and Montana State.
