Tennis Coaches Resign to Pursue Other Interests

women's head coach, along with men's head coach, Dean Owen, have tendered their letters ofresignation to Bobcat Athletics Director, Chuck Lindemenn.
Both Tate and Owen are pursuing other coaching opportunities, as well as, continuing theireducation. Tate will become women's tennis coach at Whitman College, and will work withformer Bobcat mentor, Jeff Northam. She will also work towards a master's degree. Owen islooking at coaching and educational interests at Boise State University.
Obviously, we are sad to see them leave Montana State University, Lindemenn said.However, the opportunities that have presented themselves to both Heidi and Dean are too
good to pass up. We wish them well in their future endeavors and thank them for taking the
Bobcat tennis program to the top of the Big Sky Conference.
Tate, who played at Montana State from 1990-94, has served as MSU women's coach since
1996. She was named director of tennis, last year. Owen, who was a first-team all-Big Sky
selection for the Bobcats in 1997 and 1998, led MSU to their first-ever Big Sky Conference
men's championship and NCAA tournament appearance, this spring.
It's been a pleasure to work for MSU Athletics, Tate said. It truly was a gift to play at
Montana State, then to give something back to the university through coaching. I'm looking
forward to pursuing my academic interests, while building a NCAA Division III power at
Whitman College. I'll always be involved in MSU tennis in some capacity. I would like to
thank the Bozeman tennis community for their support during my tenure, with special kudos to
Marsha Anderson, Bruce and Carolyn Erickson, the Ridenour family, Linda Stancil, Dick
Prugh, Dan Rust and the Bobcat Tennis Center Board of Directors.
Lindemenn indicated that a search committee is already in place to fill the two vacancies.
