a 4-0 victory over Big Sky champion Montana State University, in the first-round of the 2000NCAA Tennis Tournament at the Boise Racquet and Swim Club.
The Longhorns jumped out to an early 1-0 margin, after sweeping all three doubles matches toearn the point. MSU's No. 3 doubles tandem of seniors Kevin Reeder and Kris Hauck, whohad posted a perfect 8-0 mark heading into the NCAA Championships, suffered an 8-6setback to UT's Stephen Patak and Ron Kloppert. The Bobcats two other doubles pairingslost by identical 8-4 scores.
This was a tremendous experience in which the guys will build on next season, said MSUmen's coach, Dean Owen. We accomplished a lot this season and we left the court with ourheads held high. I thought we were very competitive in doubles play. We learned that we canplay with anyone.
Only three singles matches were finished. The Longhorns posted match wins at No. 2, 4 and 5
singles. Texas will play the winner of the Boise State-Ohio State match on Sunday afternoon.
MSU completed their season with a 12-11 record, which included their first-ever Big Sky
Conference championship.
