Erickson, a 6-2, 185-lb point guard from Eagle River, Ak., led Chugiak High to the statetournament as a senior. He averaged 15.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists a game lastyear, earning first team all-state honors and the High School Heisman award. He was the firstplayer other than Duke stars Trajan Langdon and Carlos Boozer to win Gatorade honors inAlaska in six years.
"Jason’s a very well-rounded player," Durham said. "He’s not afraid to guard the other team’sbest player on defense, and offensively he makes very good decisions. He’s an excellentshooter and has obviously good leadership skills, as he led Chugiak to three straight statetourney appearances."
Erickson called MSU a good fit, academically and athletically. "I had a great visit there, and Ilove the coaching staff," he said. "They are real personable, exactly the type of people I wantto be around. The computer science and engineering programs are top-of-the-line, and thetown has the same environment and is located in the same kind of setting as where I live inAlaska."
Erickson is MSU’s first signee of the spring recruiting season, which began Wednesday. TheBobcats could sign more players over the next couple of weeks.
