Bobcat Skiers Compete at NCAA Championships

Dole, a sophomore giant slalom specialist, is making her second straight NCAA appearance. She is coming off a sixth place finish in the giant slalom at the NCAA Western Regional two weeks, ago. Ellena, a freshman, will be competing in her first championship, following a seventh place finish in the giant slalom at the NCAA Western Regionals.
Suzan (Dole) and Kristen (Ellena) are skiing their best, right now, said MSU head coach Dan Brelsford. They have a lot of confidence following their strong performances at the regional. I think they have a good shot at All-America (top ten finish) status.
Dole and Ellena will compete in both alpine events. The women's giant slalom will begin Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., while the slalom race will be held, Friday, March 10 at 9:30 a.m. The NCAA Championships is based on a combined men's and women's score, with individual titles given in each event. MSU does not have a men's collegiate squad.
I think it will be to our advantage to ski aggressively, because we don't have to worry about the team score, Brelsford said. Suzan and Kristen can go all-out and not be concerned with the team concept of the championships.
MSU's last All-America performance came at the 1996 NCAA Championships when Liz Watkins placed sixth in the slalom, hosted by Bridger Bowl.
