Hot-Shooting 'Cats Down Dons

the San Francisco Dons were featured guests. Montana State's sophomore center scored 12points and turned the game with a pair of huge plays at the offensive end to lead the Bobcats toa 71-66 win that gave the 'Cats fifth place at the Big Island Invitational in Hilo, Hi.
With just over five minutes to play and the Bobcats leading by two, Duffy nailed a
three-pointer, and on the next possession converted a traditional three-point play to give the
'Cats an eight point lead. San Francisco would never get closer than five, as MSU raised its
record to 3-2. Duffy finished 5-for-5 shooting with an assist and a steal.
Beating a West Coast team is a big win for our guys, and it's a big step for this team to take,
said MSU coach Mick Durham. Some of our new players really made a difference today.
Jason Erickson had a couple of huge plays, Tom Duffy made a couple of big plays. Today's
game was totally different from last night's game, but to come back this morning after playing
late last night and win is quite an accomplishment.
Montana State's hot shooting continued on Sunday. The 'Cats, led by Duffy's 5-for-5 and
Erickson's 3-for-5 effort, shot 52.4% from the field and 23-for-27 from the line. After
shooting just 43.5% at Nevada last Monday, MSU shot 59% in the three games in Hawaii,
and have shot 50% or better in six straight halves.
We really shot the ball great over here, Durham said. We shot nearly 60% in three gamesagainst three pretty good teams.
Durham said his bench played a huge role in Sunday's win. Our depth won this game for us,he said. We were able to spread the minutes around last night (in a game that ended after 10pm Hilo time), and that really helped this morning (in a game which started at 11 am Hilotime).
The Bobcats now stand 3-2, but those five games came in a span of nine days. We startedthis trip at Reno, which seems like it was three weeks ago. We played three excellent games inHawaii, and five games in nine days. This is a much, much better team coming back home thanit was a week-and-a-half ago.
Montana State returns home mid-afternoon on Monday, and plays Wyoming in the FirstInterstate Bank Border War in Billings next Sunday at 3 pm.
