senior Tennyson Ballek was named Big Sky Conference Most Valuable Player as voted by theleague coaches, Monday morning. Ballek, a 6-foot-2 senior from Sheridan, Wyo., becomesthe third Lady ‘Cat player in seven years to garner the league's top honor. Past Lady ‘CatMVP's include Blythe Hommes (1996-97) and Cass Bauer (1992-93).
In addition, Jennifer Curl, a 5-foot-8 guard from Big Sandy, was named Big Sky ConferenceFreshman of the Year. It's the first ever freshman honor for a Lady ‘Cat player.
I didn't expect it, said Tennyson Ballek. The most important thing for me is to win asa team. I couldn't have received this honor without my teammates, especially theguards. This is an added bonus to my career, however, it's what we do at the Big SkyConference Tournament that people will remember.
Ballek leads the Big Sky Conference in field-goal shooting at 56 percent and she's beenranked as high as 14th in the nation in the NCAA Division I statistics, as well. Ballek iscurrently second in the league in rebounding, averaging 8.4 boards per game, and is rankedthird in the Big Sky in scoring, averaging 16.2 points per outing.
