Joe Tiller- Football, ‘63
Joe Tiller was one of the rocks upon which the MSU football teams of the early ‘60s were built. In his four years with the ‘Cats, Tiller was 22-12-2, and earned honorable mention All-America honors in 1963, his senior season. Tiller participated in the East-West Shrine Game in San Francisco following his senior season, then in 1966 returned to MSU as an assistant coach on Jim Sweeney’s staff. A year later, when Tom Parac took over, Tiller took over as line coach, and also coordinated recruiting and was in charge of the offense. In an age when players lined up on offense as well as defense, Tiller was known as having exceptional quickness and was a sure tackler and blocker. He was a team co-captain as a senior.
