A letter from Montana State Director of Athletics Leon Costello
Dear Bobcats,
It's hard to imagine the Fall semester is in its second week and the Bobcat football and volleyball teams have already opened their seasons and cross country will do so this weekend. The Montana State University campus is buzzing and I would like to welcome all of our MSU students, faculty and staff back to our beautiful campus.
As with each new year, I have had the opportunity to meet with all our student-athletes and the athletic teams they represent as they have come back to campus. The theme for these meetings was simple, "Take the Next Step." The foundation for our athletic programs is set and the 2019-20 athletic year promises to be one of excitement and success. I am looking forward to watching our student-athletes and coaches compete for championships.
I, like many Bobcat fans, am anticipating the home openers for all our Bobcat sports. Join us this Saturday for the annual Gold Rush game as the #13 Bobcats host the #12 Southeast Missouri State Redhawks. Help us sell out Bobcat Stadium by purchasing tickets at msubobcats.com/tickets as limited remain. MSU students have done their part; the student allotment sold out in two hours. Help us make Bobcat Stadium the best home field advantage in the country and get your tickets today and don't forget to wear GOLD.
With Gold Rush nearing a sellout and traffic expected to be heavy, please be aware of possible obstructions en route to Bobcat Stadium. Grant Street is closed for renovations to Romney Hall and Kagy Blvd. will be closed between 11th and 7th Avenue at 2:00 p.m. Please see our gameday traffic map here, our parking and tailgating guidelines here and go to the campus' new AM station 1610 for more information. Don't forget, the Clear Bag Policy is still in effect for the upcoming football season. Make sure to be prepared and get into the stadium early to avoid long lines.
One of my favorite activities on gameday is the Bobcat Prowl where our fans get to cheer on our Bobcats as they make their way to Bobcat Stadium before pre-game warmups. The Prowl will start at 4:55 p.m. for the Gold Rush game, so make sure you pack Bobcat Blvd. and cheer on the Bobcats.
A new football season also means new items at the concessions stands to spice up our game day menu. Those items include:
While I'm excited about the upcoming fall sports schedule, the winter sports are just around the corner and 2019-20 basketball season tickets are on sale now. The Montana State women's basketball team returns a group of five seniors and the men's team brings plenty of excitement under first year head coach and alum Danny Sprinkle. Click here to order your basketball season tickets today.
In the athletic department we strive to improve our fan experience. While some areas are easy to address, others can be difficult for many reasons. Your feedback, positive or negative, is vital to our success as we work to make all our Bobcat Athletic events enjoyable and exciting. One of the groups assisting that process is our Fan Advisory Council (FAC). This group reflects a broad range of individuals that include season ticket holders, recent graduates and current students. Their ideas and feedback help us shape the Bobcat fan experience including football gate efficiency, online fan guides, in-facility promotions and more. You can submit your suggestions to MSU Athletics or any member of the FAC. A list of the members is here.
Finally, we have made significant progress in finalizing the Phase I Athletics Facilities Masterplan fundraising campaign since the announcement of being $1.5M away from our fundraising goal. You can still help us cross the goal line by donating here. Stay tuned for a final campaign announcement in the near future.
As always, we appreciate the support of Bobcat Nation. Our student-athletes, coaches and staff talk about it frequently. It is what makes being part of this program so special. We look forward to seeing you on campus soon.
