Bobcats Get Double Dose of Good Academic News

MSU extends GPA streak while clearing APR benchmarks
Bobcat Athletics received a double-dose of good academic news Wednesday, when the school's 15 sports programs cleared the NCAA's Academic Progress Report (APR) minimum threshold of 930 individually and combined for a cumulative team grade point average (GPA) of better than 3.0 for the 25th consecutive semester.
Those milestones were easily cleared. The cumulative GPA for the spring semester also marked the 15th straight academic term with a team average of better than 3.15, and 63% (204) of Montana State's 322 student-athletes earned a GPA better than 3.0. In fact, 23 Bobcats landed on the school's President's List for a perfect 4.0 GPA, and 33 more received all A's, including A-minuses.
Montana State's men's tennis team led the way during the spring semester with a 3.69 team GPA, but the women's tennis team edged men's tennis (3.499) and skiing (3.536) for best GPA for the 2013-14 academic year. Of the school's sports teams, 11 finished the spring with a team GPA better than 3.0 and 10 did so for the academic year.
Each Bobcat team stayed clear of the four-year rolling average minimum (930). Falling below that mark invokes mandatory penalties, such as a post-season ban. Fourteen Bobcat teams cleared that mark by at least 25 points in 2012-13, the latest year evaluated. The men's cross country team earned national accolades for its perfect score of 1,000 for that academic year, with seven other squads coming within 10 points of perfection.
