Track and Field Announces Coach Griffith is Leaving
7/1/2010 11:42:20 AM | Track & Field
Head track and field coach Dale Kennedy announced the departure of assistant coach Jorah Griffith from the Montana State track and field program. Griffith was the javelin coach and also helped Kennedy co-coach sprinters and hurdlers.
Griffith's husband John has taken a job as the assistant principal at Riverton High School in Riverton, Wyoming. He is a former teacher and head track coach at Bozeman High.
"I don't think anybody realizes how important Jorah is to our sprinters and hurdlers in addition to the javelin," Kennedy said. "We are really going to miss her. Yes, there is crying in track and field."
Kennedy said the program plans to replace Griffith's coaching duties in sprints and hurdles. Her departure, in addition to volunteer coach Hilary Huntsinger leaving, created a need for another track coach. Throws coach MIke Carignan will coach the javelin.
Griffith just completed her eigth season coaching at MSU. She completed her undergraduate degree in Health and Human Development/Exercise Physiology at MSU in 2004. In fall 2005, she was hired full-time for coaching the javelin, as well as assisting with sprints/hurdles. She was an NCAA qualifier in the javelin, and a Mountain West All-Conference Selection at the University of Wyoming. She and her husband met at the University of Wyoming where he was also a thrower on the track and field team.
