Montana State Skiers Place Seventh at DU Invitational

Bobcat senior Claire Rennie had MSU's top finish on Saturday, placing seventh in the women's 10K freestyle in a time of 33:56.1. She was followed by Kaelin Kiesel, 8th, 34:07.1; Mellie Park, 11th, 34:34.9; Casey Kutz, 18th, 36:30.3; and Korie Steitz, 24th, 37:57.5.

On the men's side, senior Anders Folleraas had one his best outings of the season, finishing tenth in the men's 15K free style in 44:34.4. He was followed by Bernhard Roenning, 14th, 45:18.7; Gunnar Kristiansen, 15th, 45:19.5; Ryan Scott, 20th, 45:46.3; and Tyler Wright, 27th, 47:54.9.

In alpine action, MSU's highest finish went to Amy Lattimer, who posted a clocking of 1:34.53 in slalom. Also contributing for the Bobcats were Megan Bacharach, 21st, 1:36.22; Ali Leighton, 26th, 1:40.85; Carmel McElroy, 27th, 1:41.12; Hannah Victory, 29th, 1:42.10; Haley Reutimann, 30th, 1:45.339; and Breanna Huston, 34th, 1:54.06.

Joey Nelson guided the men's alpine squad in the slalom placing 17th in 1:32.16. Also finishing were Toby LaMar, 32nd, 1:52.89; Alex van Roon, 33rd, 1:54.02; and Paul Britvar, 35th, 1:54.59.

On Friday afternoon, it was the men's Nordic team that carried the day, as Roenning and Scott placed fourth and fifth, respectively in the 10K classical.

Roenning, who has been MSU's top performer on the year, finished in 35:21.5, while Scott, who had his best race as a Bobcat, posted a clocking of 35:39.2. Also contributing were Kristiansen, 16th, 36:17.7; Folleraas, 27th, 38:09.0; and Wright, 28th, 38:22.7.

Kiesel, a sophomore from Ketchum, Idaho, led the Montana State women, placing fifth overall in the 5K classical in a time of 19:48.0. She was followed by Kutz, 15th, 21:02.1; Rennie, 18th, 21:32.1; Steitz, 27th, 22:33.3; and park, 29th, 23:00.0.

In Friday's giant slalom, McElroy had her best outing of the season and first top ten finish, placing ninth with a time 2:06.89. Victory was right on her heels, finishing 11th in 2:07.38.

Also placing were Leighton, 19th, 2:10.00; Sonja Jennings, 27th, 2:20.64; Reutimann, 28th, 2:21.70; and Huston, 32nd, 2:37.86.

Top honors for the men's giant slalom contingent went to Chet Cook, who finished 22nd in 2:00.50. He was followed closely by Britvar, 27th, 2:03.92; van Roon, 29th, 2:04.64; Nelson, 31st, 2:05.33; LaMar, 32nd, 2:06.51; and Kris Shampeny, 33rd, 2:07.25.

Colorado won the team title with 540 points, followed by Denver 492, Utah 489, New Mexico 472, Alaska-Anchorage 453, Nevada 447, MSU 413, Whitman 183, and Wyoming 112.
