Casey, a native of Laurel, covered the six-kilometer course in 18:53.
Casey was followed closely by teammates Matt Adams and Kelvin Daratha, who placed second and third, respectively. Adams posted a clocking of 18:58, while Daratha crossed the finish line in 19:17.
“Our guys did a great job handling a very difficult course,” said MSU head coach Dale Kennedy. “This was a nice meet and a positive bolster as we head into championship season.”
Also stepping up for the Bobcats were Dan Jackson, 6th, 19:37; Carl Nystuen, 7th, 19:44; Devin McDowell, 13th, 19:59; Forrest Jarvi, 20th, 20:16; and Chris Baldus, 21st, 20:28.
Montana State won the team title with 19 points, followed by Idaho State 46, and the College of Idaho 62.
The Montana State women’s team finished second on Saturday. Idaho State won the meet with 28 points. Montana State recorded 38 points, while the College of Idaho posted 60.
Rebecca Sorenson was MSU’s top runner, finishing 5th overall covering the four-kilometer course in 16:18.
She was followed by Kala Jauquet, 7th, 16:22; Morgan Dunley, 9th, 16:32; Heather Haug, 10th, 16:41; Brooke Chavez, 11th, 16:45; Corrine Malcolm. 19th, 17:14; Lauren Kuennen, 24th, 17:36; and Katie Gilboy, 25th, 17:43.
“I was pleased that we had such a small gap between Rebecca Sorenson and Brooke Chavez,” Kennedy said. “We had a 27-second split between our top five, and that was a great showing. However, I think we can do a little better on the front end. We struggled a little with the course.”
ISU’s Gemma Maini won the women’s individual race, covering the course in 15:24.
Montana State will compete at the Big Sky Championships, Nov. 1 in Portland.
