2018-19:
A leading member of the MSU Nordic Ski Team, Axelsson was in a bike accident this summer just before starting school. In the accident Erik broke his back and is now paralyzed from the chest down. Overnight his life radically changed and he was faced with a new reality. Instead of retuning to MSU and another season of skiing, he is in a rehabilitation hospital near his home in Sweden. In addition to the daunting project of recovery and mastering basic life functions, his future is now on a completely different trajectory. To a remarkable degree, Erik has been taking these challenges in stride.

2018:
Was a NCAA qualifier for the 65th annual national championships in Steamboat Springs, Colorado...finished 27th in 20K Freestyle at NCAA meet and was 29th overall in the 10K Classic...garnered Second-Team All-Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association accolades after helping the Bobcat to a fourth place finish at the 2018 NCAA West Region/RMISA Championships...recorded two top 5 finishes and six top 10 showings...placed fourth in freestyle at RMISA championship...finished runner-up at US Nationals in freestyle...ended the season ranked No. 8 in NCAA Qualification points...best classic outing was a fifth place showing at the Denver Invitational.

Finished 22nd in the 10k freestyle at the Colorado Invite with a time of 28:55.9... Also placed 5th in the 20-kilometer course with a time of 58:10.4.
