Fan Advisory Council

The Montana State Fan Advisory Council was created to enhance communication between Bobcats Athletics and its constituents. Members of the Council represent different demographics and perspectives.
The Bobcat Fan Advisory Council meets quarterly in Bozeman, with agendas sent to members in the days prior to each meeting and MSU's Associate Athletic Director for Marketing facilitating the discussion. Director of Athletics Leon Costello attends when possible, with other staff members and coaches joining the discussion based on availability and the topic.
If you have any questions about the Montana State Fan Advisory Council, please contact us at promotions@msubobcats.com.

The ‘Miracle in Missoula,' Cat-Griz football game during the 2018 Season. Cats cause and recover a fumble on the goal line at the end of the fourth quarter to beat the Griz.

Some of my favorite memories always include Homecoming weekend. From year to year, I love connecting with old friends and alumni from across the country. I always look forward to participating in the
Homecoming Parade and cheering on the Cats at the Homecoming football game. It’s always an exciting, vibrant time for our community to celebrate in MSU and the long-standing traditions that make Montana
State the thriving institution that it is.

I never miss a kick off of Cat-Griz. Never. In 2003, my dad and husband were busy setting up our tailgate, at the time we didn't have season tickets and were just tailgating in a rented U-Haul van in the East Side Tailgates. We had a TV set up inside the box of the van and I had the TV on and ready to go while the guys were outside trying to get food cooked. Game starts and I am alone inside the van as Corey Smith, makes his historic return for TD. I am jumping up and down and my dad comes around and says, "what is going on?" I am yelling TD, TD. Then the cannon booms outside. I turned to everyone and said, "that is why you don't miss the kick off!" It's one of my favorite memories because it shows how far we have all come as fans and boosters, plus it was a really, really cool moment in time.

2003 beating the Griz at home on such a frigid afternoon, the fans swarming the field and dragging the goal post downtown.

2002 inside enemy territory, sandwiched between the Weedins and Doug Hammell in the first row. On my best behavior, I was able to celebrate ending the streak on the field at the 50-yard line.

I have a lot of favorite Bobcat memories but one that really sticks out is from when I was a sophomore in college. We were playing New Hampshire in the first round of the playoffs. New Hampshire had just scored a touchdown and the point after would have tied the game. My family and I all remember how loud the stadium was when they were getting ready to kick the ball. When they kicked the ball the stadium went silent, and then you could hear the ball ping off the goal post and they missed. Other than beating the griz, that’s been my favorite moment at Bobcat Stadium.

I have two… The first is the men’s basketball conference tournament in 2009 in Ogden. Will Bynum dribbled up court late in the first half and went higher than the Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year and threw down one of the nastiest dunks in the history of Bobcat basketball. Montana State shocked the conference by knocking off the juggernaut Wildcats in their own gym, and Bynum was selected as the top play on ESPN’s SportsCenter that evening. The second is the streak killer team at the 2002 Brawl of the Wild.

After Sonny Holland retired from coaching, he became the head of The Alumni Association and also served as the Commissioner of the Frontier Conference. Sonny hired me to work as the Sports Information Director for the conference. Working for and traveling to various games and conference meetings with a Bobcat Legend is probably my favorite Bobcat memory. That and watching the Cats win two National football titles in 1976 and 1984 while I was living in Bozeman. And...watching the Cats with Travis Lulay as QB break the 16-year curse.
